SPV Christmas Special! (Now with updates!)

Happy Christmas everyone! It may seem like the project is not going anywhere, but we are pretty busy! That's why we decided to make a small demo release for you!

Take a look at the trailer:

Download link and other info (including the texture issue) under the 'Read more' tab!

You can download the game here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7dj8ab0g7j5gbga

It's not as well-tested as I wanted to be, on some computers the textures are messed up and there might be other issues, and I am still trying to figure out solutions. I am using a ready made engine for the game, so there are many things beyond my capabilities.

If you got stuck with the puzzle, here is a walkthrough video:
(There is no sound in the video, because Audacity decided to crash when finished recording.)

Merry Christmas and happy gaming, folks!

Green snowflakes and other texture issues!

The game uses OpenGL shading language (GLSL for short), and as Kaito pointed out, some graphic cards do not support OpenGL. By now I am confirmed that installing Blender or running the game inside Blender (the developing environment) does not solve this problem. It's a hardware vs GLSL issue, and I am trying to find a way to fix it asap. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience, guys!

  2. Only the lantern lights, some green snowflakes, and Pinkie's shadow load up for me =[

  3. Great to see the game making so much progress so quickly!

All I got when I tried running the game though was a big gray rectangular box smack-dab in the middle of the game screen where I can't see anything behind it, and a inventory box that only shows the models for the objects in it. No 2D artwork shows up (ex: logo and inventory artwork), however all models and textures render just fine for me.

I looked at the console for the game, and it said something along the lines of "shaders not supported!" I'm guessing this means the Blender Game Engine doesn't like my video card? Or is it something else entirely with the game itself?

Hopefully I can get this thing working on my computer; I really want to try this game out for myself! :D

  4. All texture seem to be good for me (windows xp 32 bit). 1 bug so far: When you run into an object (ie. book, apple, etc.) on the ground the walking/running animation will sometimes stop, even when you make it around the object your just a frozen model. The animation starts again after you stop moving and move again. Also, the camera seem a bit slow. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it's a little annoying when you go to see if somethings behind you and pinkie's model turns around before the camera.

  5. The game is well made, no errors, no major bugs. The feeling is pretty much like in the good old Silent Hill :D. As for missing textures and shader errors, I have shader ver. 3.0 and no problems so far. I suggest checking the shader version of your graphic card, also u can chceck the driver updates, thats all I could figure out.
    Keep up the good work!

  6. I can't get it to start up. Please help.

  7. It shouldn't be necessary, but give downloading and installing Blender a try. It's the program the game is made in, and perhaps there are some dll's that it needs FROM the program, regardless of it being a standalone compile.

Terribly sorry for any technical difficulties you guys may be enduring, but hey! That's what testing's for :D

  8. I have only one problem.
When I'm playing the game, the only time I can see the correct coloring is when the lantern's light is hitting the model.
Otherwise, everything is green and black...

  9. Welll it's bugging on me. Can't even start the game. AHHHHH. Why me

  10. AMFG the ending to the 'demo' scared the carp outta me! XD
Keep it up! I'm loving the gameplay right now! I can't wait for the full version!

  11. My friend is the same and cannot start the game. Just gets a black screen. If anyone has an answer, would be appreciated. Works perfectly for me, but I would love for her to be able to play it since she is the fan!

  12. The demo was awesome ^^ the only problem i had was that the entire thing was green as if in night vision (except when under a lit Christmas star-shaped light) other than that, it was awesome ^^

  13. for whatever reason, there is a big grey box where Pinkie Pie is standing... strange

  14. Played it, everything played fine, except for a couple times, when she seemed to be resisting her movement and I'd stop moving and she'd almost elastically move backwards a little. But then I'd stop and wait a second and she'd move again fine. That was only in the first five or so minutes though.
Pinkie doesn't seem to have a rotate animation yet, but that's the only other thing I could nitpick.
Loved it, can't wait to play it again when it's finished.

  17. I seem to be the only one with this problem but... I can't seem to turn left while "galloping". I can turn right just fine, but if I try to turn left all she does is run straight (usually right at a monster). And I am still bashing my head against the desk at the puzzle. (No, I'm not using the hint vid)

  18. Having this problem

I figure thats the "controls" menu, but I can't get rid of it. any idea?

Press H to get rid of it

Also Great demo. The only problems I encountered was that the loading screen doesn't show properly and the cages around the key don't go away.
And sorry for the previous comments taking up space.

  23. Hey everypony, I think it should really help the team on debugging if you'd give them any info about your PCs;)

    Anyways,
Acer Aspire 5742G - Intel i5 460M, 3GB RAM, Radeon 5470, Win7 Pro, no Blender installed - everything looks ok compared againts the roadmap, FPS about 50, but sometimes drops to 20, especially when turning around when groaner appears:)

  24. Haha, That was pretty great! Good to know this project isn't dead. Only bug I ran into is the notes would disappear after I read them on my first playthrough, and I didn't think to hold space down when picking them up so I didn't get to read them. Everything worked fine on the second playthrough though.

  25. I've found one bug, but with closed engine you can't do much about it. When in map mode, sometimes objects from game cover it up.

Btw, if I may ask. Why Blender?:) You can use anything, like OGRE. It's easy to use, (it can import Blender models;) ) and its code is open, so you can patch something up if you need it:)

  26. How do I even install this demo...? XD

  27. I just have a black screen and what appears to be green snow coming down from the top when i open up the application.

  28. I'm with Nando. I've downloaded it, unzipped it.. but there isn't an obvious installer..

  29. Ok. First time trying it out, and I got a few things I would like to recommend (you may already have them in mind already, but still, I feel like describing them):

    1. I'm guessing apples replenish health, correct? In that case, they seem to be too noticeable. SH games often have them in a bit-of hidden corners.

    2. It's a bit hard to interact with objects like doors or notes. I had to try like 5 times on the library's door just for it to give me the message of the door being jammed. Same with the note that is on the side.

    3. I noticed there's invisible barriers you can't go through. I can't remember exactly where, but there was one, on the way following where you get the lantern, in which I accidentally tried to go through and then I got a bit stuck. I moved back, and then I just got stuck there. Pinkie would still do the moving motion, yet, I wouldn't actually move, and a monster that was there just killed me.

So, that's all I've noticed so far. The game is looking great. Seriously. Keep up the good work.

  30. Can I run the demo on Windows 64bit? I can hear Pinkie Pie's footsteps but the screen is completely black.

  32. Well, I feel dumb. To open the game, double-click the file "spv_xmas".

  33. It looks great so far! The only thing I'd have to say is that the cages around the key don't disappear. But that's only a minor problem. Thanks for your hard work

  34. i cant find a way to start i double clicked the right file but it just opened up into the inner workings of the games files

  35. Just found this blog! Looking forward to the game. Do you still need me for music scoring?

  36. No game over screen when you die. I was just about to get into Sugar Cube Corner and I got trapped by one of the zombie ponies (I forget what they're called) and mauled to death. Definitely didn't make me want to try again. :/ The menus should pause the game, and there needs to be an active compass on the map. Other than a few awkward model issues with galloping, it looks good so far.

  37. for me pinkie is just a grey rectangle

  41. Is this project still active? it's been about 2 years since the last update and I think it'd kinda suck if there's no actual peep of whether or not anything is going well.

Eitherway, i'm always lookin' forward to this comin out, I come at least once a week to check the status... but nothin' ever changes XD.

Heres to hopin your just stayin quiet is all.
